Weddings – often made by the Kids.

I have the pleasure in being asked to photograph and record many weddings, and every one is unique and memorable.

However one theme that is common across all of them – is the interaction of the children. Children do not understand (and nor should they) the etiquette or deeper meanings of weddings and often behave the most naturally. They are sweet, endearing, a breath of fresh air and create some amusing moments.

It is not always possible to capture these moments, but I always feel rewarded to get at least a few in each Wedding. I recently photographed a Wedding for a couple that had two small boys (aged nearly 2 and 3).

Here are a few images from the day of those lovely little chaps.

The Bride and Groom chose the words from a well known song …. “I want to grow old with you …” Again very emotional and another couple of lads were to read this together. The younger one clearly affected by the emotion of the words, started to falter during the 2nd verse, his brother took over and hid him without any fuss.Josh & Jess 267 .jpgCritique.jpg

Anyhow back to those two boys ….  still enjoying themselves.

They were even part of cutting the cake:

Here are some of my other favourite children from other Weddings.

These two were asked to hold the veil up and then run … I think this made a more memorable image than the intended final shot!

And when we are young enough … we can do what we want really.

Why have a professionally taken headshot?

5 shot banner.jpg

It has never been more vital in today’s competitive market place to stand out. Clients increasingly want to know not only what you do – but also who you are.

With the proliferation of social media this is likely the first place a potential client becomes aware of you, or your company.

You will never get a second chance to make that first impression.

Professional headshots ensure you stand out from your competitors.

Whether it is a “likeable” image you wish to portray or a more relaxed image

……..  or a perhaps you need a more serious side ….

The background, lighting and how you stand can all conspire to make or break a high quality image. Having a bad quality image can do far more damage to your reputation. We have the skills and knowledge to help you

We all snap away with our phones and create images we use on social media, and whilst these are more than acceptable for sharing with friends, they do not always present the correct image for “our” business side.

You only have to look at some of the images on LinkedIn to see these common mistakes made when we select our own headshots. There are many components that need to be managed to get a great headshot and whilst the following is not an exhaustive list, these are key:

  • Eyes in focus
  • No distracting elements in the image
  • Lighting that flatters the subject
  • Image is in correct context of the business or the situation being portrayed (this might be role specific – perhaps showing kindness, a “professional”, likeable, or if the image requires gravitas etc,)
  • Not a picture taken at a social event (likely to have the wrong “feel”)
  • Needs to have some “soul”.
  • Posture good.

Most of us are very self conscious about having images of ourselves taken and as a result we do not take the time to get excellent images. This is why it is important to have someone take your shot that can make you look your best, by controling in lighting and pose.

Why not get ahead of your competitors today with professional headshots and make your people stand out. We have the skills and knowledge to help you.

We know your time is precious, so we provide a service at your premises. We are running an offer for businesses during April, but shoot date can be anytime up to May 2017.

We are also able to offer prices for individual shoots.

Kids expressing themselves …so cute

Pictures of Kids abound these days, probably all parents have hundreds of pictures of their precious ones –  showing the fun, laughter and perhaps a few tears, that we all enjoy as they grow up.

Whilst the humble iPhone (or Android) are not quality cameras they do allow capture in an unobtrusive way – and children quickly become less aware of them.

Whilst it is still possible these days to have more formal shots of children and families (there is a place for these, for sharing with loved ones and later generations), the spontaneity of the little person in their environment – allowing their personalities to show through, are the most precious.

The downside to the phone camera though is that it lacks any sort of controls and in any less than favourable light, images can be lacking in definition and punch.

_4PC9725-2.jpgThe advent of the smaller and lighter mirrorless cameras (Fuji in this case) have made capturing children by professional photographers in their environment so much easier. Often using large cameras would make anyone being photographed very conscious and inevitably the image if not posed, looked awkward. Now with these small cameras, with all the controls of their larger brothers (DSLRS) and some superb lenses – it is much easier to get natural looking sparkling images.

I moved to Fuji mirrorless camera last year and for me this has opened up a much easier way of capturing these kind of images (all images here are from my Fujis). They are much lighter than my DSLRs and boy that is a boon for me at Weddings. The most important aspect for me is that they are so unobtrusive that my subjects are not intimidated and the live picture view on the screen, means I do no have to have the camera to my face to take an image – thereby maintaining eye contact and relationship with my subject.

Moving to Somerset 10 years ago has opened up so many locations for suburb images, right on my doorstep. Never looked back – but that is for another blog sometime,
